ABOUT

A shared ocean
Curiosity. Science. The sea.
I live in the middle of the UK, surrounded by fields and hills. On an island, but away from the sea.
The ocean is over there. I’m here.
I can see changes in the landscape around me. What worries me is what I can’t see: what’s happening in that big blue slosh beyond the coast.
I started Atlantic Observatory because I wanted to know more. My aim is to make ocean data visible, simple to read and easy to explore. Knowing what’s happening at sea should feel as familiar—and as important—as asking, “Is it raining tomorrow?”
It’s easy to feel disconnected from the ocean when you live inland. Yet it shapes our weather, our climate and the lives we lead. I want to bring it closer, so we can understand its changes and why they matter to the things we care about.
The Observatory brings together maps, photographs and published scientific data, following the Atlantic and its connections to the Arctic, Greenland and Antarctica. You can explore a place, see how conditions are changing or follow the longer records. Dates, sources and methods are there whenever you want to look further.
I’m building the Observatory a piece at a time. It’s my way of looking closer and sharing what I find.
